The nymph Aegle (Αἴγλη) belongs to the virgin Hesperides, along with her sisters Erythia, Hesperia, Arethusa and Hesperethusa. Aegle would then be the daughter of Atlas and Hesperis, but they would also be called Nyx and Erebus. Even a descent of only Nyx, so without a man, is mentioned. Finally, Zeus and Neaera are mentioned as parents. According to Pausanias, she, along with Helios, was the mother of the Graces. However, they are generally considered to be the daughters of Zeus and Eurynome. Aegle is a personification of the brilliance of the sunlight.
