Boreas (Βορέας) was de Griekse god van de noordenwind. Hij was de zoon van Eos, de godin van de dageraad, en van Astraeus. Zijn broers waren Euros (de oostenwind), Notos (de zuidenwind) en Zephyros (de westenwind). Vaak wordt gedacht dat Aeolus zijn vader was. Dit is niet correct: Aeolus was god van de wind en werd door Zeus aangesteld als de bewaarder van de winden. Aeolus houdt deze winden opgesloten in een grot, en kan ze als hij dat wil uitzenden om wind te brengen.
Boreas (Βορέας) was the Greek god of the north wind. He was the son of Eos, goddess of the dawn, and of Astraeus. His brothers were Euros (the east wind), Notos (the south wind) and Zephyros (the west wind). It is often thought that Aeolus was his father. This is not correct: Aeolus was god of the winds and was appointed by Zeus as the keeper of the winds. Aeolus keeps these winds locked in a cave, and can send them out if he wants to bring wind.
