De oppergod Zeus was berucht om zijn seksuele uitspattingen waardoor hij ook geregeld overhoop lag met zijn jaloerse echtgenote, de godin Hera. Op een dag ziet Zeus prinses Europa met een paar vriendinnen bloemen plukken op het strand in de buurt van Sidon. De schoonheid van de prinses kan hij niet weerstaan. In de buurt van de meisjes staat een kudde koeien te grazen. Zeus neemt de gedaante aan van een stier en voegt zich onder de dieren. Als de prinses de onbekende stier ziet, wordt ze nieuwsgierig. Ondanks zijn krachtige uiterlijke lijkt het dier bovendien erg lief en zachtaardig. Prinses Europa en haar vriendinnen spelen een tijdje met de stier en versieren het dier met bloemen. De meisjes gaan zo in hun spel op dat prinses Europa opeens besluit op de stier te klimmen. Ze zit nog niet op de brede schouders van het dier of deze stormt het strand af. De stier zet het vervolgens op een zwemmen en aangezien prinses Europa niet kan zwemmen, zit er voor haar niets anders op dan zich stevig aan de woeste stier vast te klampen. Als de stier op Kreta aankomt, onthult Zeus zijn identiteit. De prinses kan de avances van de god niet weerstaan en de twee hebben gemeenschap. Europa baart hierna drie kinderen: Minos, Rhadamantus en Sarpedon
The supreme god Zeus was notorious for his sexual excesses, as a result of which he regularly quarreled with his jealous wife, the goddess Hera. One day Zeus sees Princess Europa picking flowers on the beach near Sidon with some friends. He cannot resist the beauty of the princess. A herd of cows is grazing near the girls. Zeus takes the form of a bull and joins the animals. When the princess sees the unknown bull, she becomes curious. In addition, despite its powerful appearance, the animal seems very sweet and gentle. Princess Europa and her friends play with the bull for a while and decorate it with flowers. The girls are so absorbed in their game that Princess Europa suddenly decides to climb on the bull. As soon as she sits on the animal’s broad shoulders, it storms off the beach. The bull then starts to swim and since Princess Europa cannot swim, she has no choice but to cling tightly to the ferocious bull. When the bull arrives in Crete, Zeus reveals his identity. The princess cannot resist the god’s advances and the two have intercourse. Europa then gives birth to three children: Minos, Rhadamantus and Sarpedon
