The goddess Nike is the symbol of ‘victory’ in Greek mythology. Unlike other gods, no extensive cult arose around Nike. She did not have an elaborate personality, but was “only” a symbol of victory. There are also few legends surrounding Nike. The goddess was often worshiped together with another god. Usually this was Zeus. According to Hesiod, she was a daughter of the titan Pallas and the nymph Styx. Elsewhere, however, Ares is referred to as her father. In the battle between the Titans and Zeus, Nikè along with her brothers Zelos (hardiness) and Kratos (strength) and sister Bia (force) came to the aid of Zeus. For that reason, after the battle was over, she was allowed to live with the other gods on Mount Olympus.
