Zephyros staat symbool voor de westenwind. Volgens een mythe blaast hij de godin Aphrodite na haar geboorte uit het schuim der zee naar het eiland Cyprus. Zephyros is de zoon van Eos (de godin van de dageraad) en Astraeus. De broers van Zephyros beheersen allen een andere windrichting: Boreas (noordenwind), Eurus (oostenwind) en Notos (zuidenwind). Volgens de verhalen leeft de god van de westenwind in een grot op Thracië. Op een dag ontvoert de windgod de godin Chloris. Hij geeft haar vervolgens de macht over de bloemenwereld. Samen krijgen zij een zoon: Ampyx. Hij verwekt later een kind bij zijn eigen moeder.

Zephyros symbolizes the west wind. According to a myth, he blows the goddess Aphrodite out of the foam of the sea to the island of Cyprus after her birth. Zephyros is the son of Eos (the goddess of the dawn) and Astraeus. Zephyros’ brothers all control a different wind direction: Boreas (north wind), Eurus (east wind) and Notos (south wind). According to legend, the god of the west wind lives in a cave in Thrace. One day the wind god kidnaps the goddess Chloris. He then gives her power over the flower world. Together they have a son: Ampyx. He later fathers a child with his own mother.
